i have redone the Arduino code and hardware a bit. i pulled the RWP Mini2560, as i switched to a Ethernet Shield, mounted on a Arduino MEGA2560. nothing against the RWP Mini2560, it just wouldn't take a shield. there just wasn't a need for a WiFi interface inside the rack, where hard-line networking is available.
also, i have added a low-pass filter on the current sense circuit, just to filter out the PWM carrier frequency. this cured the intermittent current reading.
